This morning, ActionSA opened voting in its historic Candidate Election System, taking place from 21 June to 27 June 2021, for residents across the metros of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.
Our voting process allows citizens to reclaim their political power, by giving them the opportunity to directly elect the mayoral and ward councillor candidates they want to represent ActionSA on the ballot paper in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
These candidates have emerged from our transparent candidate nomination process and are proud South Africans, from all walks of life, who are committed to fighting for the wellbeing of residents in their cities. Indeed, this past week, we also announced nine Mayoral Candidates for each of the respective metros. Whilst all our mayoral and ward councillor candidates may be competing for votes, all of our candidates are united in their resolve to ensure that the ANC is removed from power and quality services are delivered to residents.
As part of their application process, candidates have canvassed the support of 500 residents from their communities in which they are standing, while PR candidates have to canvass the support of 500 residents from their municipality.
We know that South Africans are fed up with a political system that has resulted in the selection of compromised candidates by political parties. Those who have been parachuted into political positions across all levels of government care more about serving their political masters instead of residents in their communities. As ActionSA, we believe in giving a voice to good, hard-working, law-abiding, family-oriented and freedom-loving people of our beloved country.
Since the launch of our ground-breaking system in mid-April, we have already seen over 5200 prospective candidates register onto the system and over 134 000 prospective voters register to participate in our Candidate Elections. Residents from across the three metros can cast their votes on vote.actionsa.org.za until Sunday 23:59. Any eligible voter is able to participate in our Candidate Elections, subject to them registering on our online portal. They do not need to be members of ActionSA. Physically voting across the three metros will also take place on the Saturday, 26 June 2021.
We believe that our Candidate Election System is the first step toward restoring real political power to the people of South Africa. We look forward to contesting the Local Government Elections on 27 October, where we stand ready to provide an alternative to the broken political system that has failed South Africans.
