ActionSA sends our condolences to the family and friends of Dr Ngoako David Thebehali, who died yesterday after a long illness.

An outstanding South African and devout Christian, the former mayor of Soweto, Thebehali, played an integral role in the upliftment of Soweto’s physical infrastructure as well as overall wellbeing of the community.

Having managed to secure about R268m from various South African banks to fund the electrification of Soweto as well as numerous other development projects that include sewage and water pipes, improvement of road infrastructure, the establishment of the Soweto College of Education and the relocation of Vista University.

In 1984 Dr Thebehali established his own church the Fourways Ministries in Orlando East which still operates today.  

The people of Meadowlands and Diepkloof who in 1999 received their Title Deeds will forever remember the part he played in the handing over of these important documents to them and their families. 

May the soul of this outstanding South African rest in perfect and eternal peace.
