Call For eThekwini Municipality to Remedy Current Power Outage

ActionSA notes, with concern, the recent explosion at the Klaarwater substation in Pinetown which occurred last night. The explosion plunged almost half the city into darkness. With Klaarwater being one of the major substations in the metro, ActionSA implores the municipality to investigate, identify and be transparent with the cause of the explosion.

Furthermore, ActionSA urges the municipality to urgently repair damages and restore electricity to those residents and businesses who remain without power. The residents and businesses of eThekwini have and continue to suffer due to the repercussions of major setbacks in recent times.

Rolling blackouts, extensive damage from flooding and water contamination due to E-Coli are just some of the issues plaguing the city.

It is therefore imperative that the power outages do not continue for prolonged periods because it will undoubtedly exacerbate the City’s already-beleaguered economy.

We commend city officials for working through the night to restore power supply in some areas and encourage them to continue the good work.

As an organisation committed to serving the people, we will be communicating with the Mayor and City Manager for clarity on the causes of the explosion and timelines for when power will be restored to affected areas whose power is yet to be restored.
