Tshwane MPAC Launches Committee Meetings Livestream Under ActionSA Stewardship

Last week, the Section 79 Municipal Public Accounts (MPAC) in Tshwane launched the first public streaming platform for all committee meetings to be streamed live on the City’s Youtube platform. This, in accordance with the provisions of the Promotion of Access to Information Act of 2000 (PAIA).

Similarly, the residents of Tshwane will be aware that Council meetings are also streamed live to give the residents, who are unable to attend Council meetings physically in the public gallery, the opportunity to do so online.

The City of Tshwane, like many municipalities across South Africa, is experiencing budgetary and resource constraints far below its capacity to make good on its service delivery promises to the residents of the Capital.

It is for this reason that all efforts towards ensuring that all City processes must be made available for public scrutiny where access to information is fundamental to Council’s ability to give effect to its legislative mandate.

Gone are the days when public officials and political appointees alike can carry out their tasks in some veils of secrecy. Nothing discussed in oversight committee meetings needs to remain behind closed doors.

Furthermore, as a Party committed to ethical leadership and advancing public participation and active citizenship as espoused in our founding principles as established during The People’s Dialogue, we believe this is a great stride in ensuring that our residents are not left behind.

ActionSA will continue to champion efforts to bridge the divide between the City and the people of Tshwane who have long been subjected to instability that hampers their access to basic and decent service delivery.
