Gauteng in Action

2 October 2024

From the Desk of

The Provincial Chairperson

Dear Actioneers,

ActionSA has taken a step closer to reclaiming our identity as an independent political party that will fight corruption and ensure improved service delivery to all residents equally.

On Thursday, 26 September 2024, all 19 ActionSA councillors voting in support of the ANC-sponsored motion against the DA Executive Mayor Cilliers Brink, so as to end an 8-year era of failed reign of the DA in Tshwane.

Within 14 days, a new Executive Mayor needs to be voted in by Council. ActionSA is and will forever be beholden to our members and supporters, and the delivery of quality services to all residents of the nation’s capital.

Thank you to our members and supporters for your continued commitment to fixing South Africa. Please do remember to register on ActionSA’s new membership system, so as to help us build strong branches across all regions in Gauteng Province.

Kind regards,

Funzi Ngobeni MPL

Gauteng Provincial Chairperson

Update from the Regions

RAND WEST

ActionSA Rand West Regional Chairperson Lewatle Diale discussed Gauteng’s abandoned, unfinished and delayed projects on a recent interview with Power FM.

She highlighted the West Rand region, citing extortion of contractors as a primary reason for delays. Many projects, including roads and housing initiatives, remain incomplete and vulnerable to vandalism.

Diale provided insight into Montrose Mega Projects and surrounding developments, which the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) didn’t visit.

The NCOP’s oversight aims to address stalled initiatives, promoting accountability and transparency in Gauteng’s infrastructure development. By shedding light on these issues, Diale and the NCOP seek meaningful change and progress in the region.

LESEDI

ActionSA Lesedi is busy with a project to fight unfair allocations of RDP houses in the region, in which community members feel they were overlooked in a process.

They have opened a Community Whatsapp Group for those who are approved to receive an RDP, but are yet to be allocated.

ActionSA Lesedi is hoping to call a public meeting in the coming weeks so as to hear first hand the issues members face. They will be reaching out to Gauteng Members of Provincial Legislature for support in having this on-going issue resolved.

EMFULENI

ActionSA Gauteng Caucus Leader Funzi Ngobeni was invited by ActionSA Emfuleni activists to do an oversight visit of Boipatong Social Integrated Facility in Emfuleni Local Municipality.

Boipatong Social Integrated Facility is currently the only facility available to accommodate the elderly and, therefore, its completion is imperative.

During our engagement with neighbouring residents, local leaders and elderly beneficiaries, who were supposed to be accommodated there, many questions and concerns were raised.

Steps to address the delay in completion of much-needed facility for the elderly are underway.

ActionSA notes with deep concern the lack of progress in completion of Boipatong Social Integrated Facility in Emfuleni Local Municipality.

Update from the Caucuses

PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE

ActionSA Gauteng SCOPA Chairperson John Moodey MPL is chairing a 4-day Breakaway Session with focus on the Auditor General, Gauteng Premier, Provincial Treasury and Public Service Commissioner.

The issue of incomplete projects is under sharp focus, as well as the recovery of misappropriation of funds. Consequences management is also under scrutiny. ActionSA is committed to good governance and will fight corruption at all levels of government.

JOHANNESBURG

Following months of unjustified load reduction at Silver Glades in Princess, ActionSA Environment and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) Chairperson Cllr Vhengani Munyayi conducted a fact-finding mission. EISD committee has escalated the matter to City Power General Manager with report on their findings.

ActionSA reiterates our call for robust revenue collection. The City will never reach its revenue collection target whilst depriving paying clients of electricity. ActionSA Joburg Caucus will work tirelessly to ensure that this matter is resolved.

TSHWANE

ActionSA welcomed the decisive action taken by Tshwane Councillors to remove Cilliers Brink as the Mayor of the capital city on Thursday, 26 September. The decisive step has brought an end to an 8-year failed reign of the DA in Tshwane.

If Brink were an ANC Mayor, he would be regarded by the same people who defend him now as an average mayor by any objective measurement of the current state of the City of Tshwane.

The onslaught of DA propaganda these past few weeks, that seeks to represent Brink as the only candidate capable of rescuing the City of Tshwane from “doomsday” and gloom. A closer look at Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) statistics proves the opposite.

ActionSA has chosen to leave the DA-led coalition, so as to distance itself from further mismanagement of limited financial resources in the City of Tshwane, and will seek alternative political partners who are committed to fighting corruption and ensuring improved service delivery to all communities in City of Tshwane.

For now, we are led by ActionSA Acting Executive Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya, until a new Executive Mayor has been voted in by Council. Let’s fix Tshwane.
