ActionSA Welcomes Gauteng Premier’s Commitment to RDP Housing Audit
Press Statement by Emma More
ActionSA Member of the Gauteng Legislature
ActionSA in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature welcomes the public commitment made by Premier Panyaza Lesufi on 9 September 2025 to conduct a comprehensive audit of all RDP houses allocated in Gauteng over the past eight years.
This commitment follows sustained pressure from ActionSA, beginning with formal submissions to the MEC for Human Settlements, escalated through the Human Settlements Committee by ActionSA’s Emma More MPL, and culminating in a direct question posed to the Premier by ActionSA’s Caucus Leader in the GPL, Hon. Funzi Ngobeni MPL.
The Premier confirmed in the House that he fully supports ActionSA’s call to audit RDP housing allocations to ensure that:
Beneficiaries still lawfully occupy their allocated homes;
No RDP houses have been sold illegally outside the legal framework;
Undocumented foreign nationals are not unlawfully accessing state-subsidised housing.
This is a critical step toward restoring integrity, transparency, accountability and fairness in Gauteng’s housing system. ActionSA now awaits the MEC for Human Settlements to present a clear framework outlining the implementation plan and timelines for this audit. Of critical importance to us is when this process will start to ensure consequence management is enacted, where necessary.
As ActionSA we firmly believe that the current approach to housing provision is outdated, lacks accountability, very costly and not properly implemented and monitored. Furthermore, it does little to expand access to affordable, safe, clean, and inclusive living spaces where people can enjoy quality living.
We will monitor this process closely to ensure that the Premier’s commitment translates into meaningful action. Our communities deserve answers, and ActionSA will not rest until the truth about RDP housing allocations is fully uncovered and corrective measures are taken.
Vulnerable residents of Gauteng deserve protection from those they elect as their public representatives and ActionSA is committed to be that voice.
