ActionSA to Take Legal Action Following Tragic Death of 10-YearOld in Midoroni Village
Press Statement by Victor Mothemela
ActionSA Limpopo Chairperson
ActionSA is deeply saddened and outraged by the senseless death of 10-year-old Mpho Ednah Mabudu, who was tragically killed on Thursday, 15 January 2026, in Midoroni Village.
ActionSA Regional Secretary Mr Thomas Madzhie visited the bereaved Mabudu family to offer our deepest condolences and support. The young girl’s life was cut short when she was crushed by a massive rock while playing with other children, a rock that was negligently left behind by a contractor hired by the Makhado Municipality to construct local roads.
The recent site visit conducted by our Vhembe regional leadership confirmed a scene of absolute negligence. The village of Midoroni is currently littered with hazardous rubble and construction debris left behind after the road project was purportedly “completed.” Despite the community holding several meetings to voice their concerns about the safety risks posed by this unrehabilitated site, their pleas were brushed aside. It is very concerning that it took the death of a child for the severity and negligence of Makhado Municipality and their appointed contractor’s failure to be acknowledged. This was not an “accident”; it was a predictable tragedy caused by a total lack of oversight and accountability.
ActionSA is currently consulting with our legal team to ensure that both the contractor and the Makhado Municipality are held civilly and, if appropriate, criminally liable for this gross negligence. We demand an immediate audit of all road construction sites in the municipality to ensure rubble is cleared and sites are rehabilitated before another family is forced to bury a child. ActionSA stands at the forefront of this fight for justice for Mpho Ednah Mabudu.
