ActionSA stands ready for its announcement of a Joburg Mayoral Candidate tomorrow, Saturday, 21 February 2026, in Orlando, Soweto.
The party’s central Candidate Selection Committee (CSC) concluded its work yesterday and has finalised the appointment of a Joburg Mayoral Candidate. The five candidates have been informed of the outcome.
The process followed to reach this point has involved a rigorous series of steps. Candidates were invited to develop and present 5 year turnaround plans for Johannesburg, addressing the collapse of service delivery, the weakened financial position and the rampant levels of corruption. Candidates were also required to develop a blueprint for the city’s annual budget that would align resources behind service delivery priorities. Interviews were held by the panel, and thorough vetting of each candidate was conducted.
Accordingly, ActionSA can confirm that its processes have been thorough and have led to an outcome where the residents of Joburg, depressed by the state of collapsed services in their city, can believe in an alternative to the failures of parties that have misgoverned the city for years.
The venue, Orlando Community Hall, was chosen for its symbolic significance as the location where the Diphetogo (Changes) Programme was launched and spearheaded by three of ActionSA’s candidates. This programme paved the way for tangible improvements in electricity, water, roads, healthcare, and the fight against crime and corruption in the City of Johannesburg.
ActionSA could have filled much larger venues and has been under pressure from its structures; however, the party chose to return to this venue, where the essence of its fight to fix Johannesburg is best reflected.
As such, the programme for the event will differ from that of other parties because it will involve Joburg residents, representing different sectors of society, speaking to the incontrovertible truth that the leaders with a track record of fixing Joburg reside only within ActionSA. The programme itself is an action-packed list of speakers, including Tshwane Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Cllr Xolani Khumalo and March-in-March movement leader, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma.
ActionSA will be sharing this message with Joburg residents tomorrow, along with the call for them to vote differently in the next election. Cities like Joburg have been failed by governments led by the ANC and the DA for many years, and the only way to break that cycle will be to unite behind the only party with leaders who have a track record of fixing Joburg.
