ActionSA’s Zandile Dabula Calls on Residents to Report Suspected Unlawful Occupation of RDP Houses by Foreign Nationals
Press Statement by Zandile Dabula
ActionSA Joburg MMC Candidate for Human Settlements
ActionSA Johannesburg MMC Candidate for Human Settlements, Zandile Dabula, is calling on residents to assist with protecting South Africa’s housing system by reporting suspected unlawful occupation of RDP houses by foreign nationals as they do not qualify under South African housing policies.
The call forms part of ActionSA’s commitment to ensure that government-subsidised housing is allocated to qualifying South African beneficiaries in accordance with the law. At a time when many South African families remain on housing waiting lists or continue living in informal settlements, every allegation of abuse of the housing system deserves proper investigation.
Residents who have information regarding suspected RDP houses occupied by foreign nationals who may be unlawfully benefiting from government housing are encouraged to report it confidentially, on the Tip-off Line: 071 645 1639. All information will be treated confidentially, and the identity of whistleblowers will remain anonymous.
Every qualifying South African family deserves a fair opportunity to access adequate housing. If there are cases where foreign nationals have unlawfully occupied or benefited from RDP houses, those allegations must be thoroughly investigated, and where wrongdoing is found, the law must take its course. Government housing must reach those it was intended to serve.
ActionSA encourages residents to provide factual information and supporting details where possible and to allow the relevant authorities to investigate every reported case. The party further calls on members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasising that all matters must be dealt with through lawful processes that uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.
