ActionSA Gauteng has placed Mr Malesela Teffo on precautionary suspension with immediate effect. The disciplinary process involving Mr Teffo was already underway before his arrest on 15 September 2026.
Earlier this month, concerns about his conduct were referred to the Party’s Provincial Ethics and Disciplinary Officer (PEDO). This followed his appearance at the Johannesburg High Court wearing ActionSA regalia, and his subsequent response when the Party’s Tshwane structures asked him to account for what had happened.
After considering the matter, PEDO found that there was a prima facie basis for the disciplinary process to continue.
Mr Teffo’s arrest this week is a further development that the Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) had to consider. After receiving PEDO’s advice and considering the latest developments, the PEC decided that precautionary suspension was appropriate while the disciplinary process runs its course.
We want to be clear about what this means. The suspension is not a finding of guilt. Mr Teffo will have an opportunity to respond to the matters before PEDO, and the process must be allowed to run fairly.
While suspended, Mr Teffo may not participate in ActionSA campaign or Party activities, represent or speak on behalf of ActionSA, or present himself as acting for the Party.
Mr Teffo is currently an ActionSA ward candidate in Tshwane. His precautionary suspension deals with his participation and status within the Party while the disciplinary process is underway.
PEDO has been asked to deal with the matter urgently and report back to the PEC.
ActionSA expects its candidates and public representatives to account when serious questions are raised about their conduct. At the same time, we will not replace a proper disciplinary process with a trial through the media.
We will communicate further once the disciplinary process has reached the appropriate stage.
