eThekwini Beaches Unsafe and A Danger to Tourists

Today marks the beginning of a long weekend, besides, it being Heritage Day. In eThekwini, these long weekends once attracted greater multitudes of domestic tourists who were eager to enjoy the beach and warm weather. However, thanks to the corruption of the ANC in the eThekwini municipality, it has become unsafe to do so.

Durban beaches are no longer safe; with the stream of tourists arriving as of midday 23 September 2021, one cannot help but be concerned for the safety and security of all.

Our beaches have become a health hazard and a danger zone with nature conservation specialists predicting that, in the next five years, the beaches may need to close. If the Mayor of eThekwini, Mxolisi Kaunda, was responsible and cared about the residents of eThekwini, and the citizens of South African, he would publicly announce that our beaches are not safe zone due to the city’s inability to service infrastructure. He would mention that the city is currently unable to prevent pollutants such as sewerage spills from entering the water.

The city has decayed to the point where each time it rains there is a high chance of sewerage and other pollutants spilling into the surrounding beaches. Our ocean and coastline are the pride and joy of eThekwini and failure to maintain, protect and ensure health standards there is an insult. Worse, it denies struggling businesses the benefit of a revitalisation of eThekwini’s tourism economy.

The present situation in eThekwini is a result of the mismanagement of infrastructure maintenance and unmanaged urban migration; unlawful immigration into the city continues to go unattended, adding to resource and infrastructure constraints.

ActionSA would work to revive the economy and re-invest in our infrastructure, but we can only do so if every eligible resident votes the ANC out! We want eThekwini to go back to being the tourist envy of South Africa. We want to maintain pristine beaches and expand tourism into the rural areas of our city. In that way, we will be able to capitalise on our diversity as a people no and position ourselves in a manner that celebrates our heritage and diversity daily.

Everything that can be broken in eThekwini by the ANC, they have broken. Everything that can be stolen by the ANC, they have stolen. However, one thing they cannot succeed in is denying South Africans an opportunity to choose better during the local government elections.

ActionSA is a viable alternative in eThekwini with Dr Makhosi Khoza as a mayoral candidate. ActionSA is committed to preserving our beaches and growing our economy through the deliberate act of putting the people of eThekwini first. We are unapologetically biased towards the people of this city and it through that bias, that we will be able to preserve what is left of eThekwini.

This perpetual decay of the city will be a thing of the past when ActionSA is elected. eThekwini continues to take blows without any shield from the ruling party. Our people and businesses have suffered due to covid restrictions which affect the hospitality industry as well. A double blow came in July 2021, when businesses where looted.

The people have an option to refuse the third blow which will be the final blow. Inability to look after our beaches should be the last straw. Residents must reclaim their city on 1 November 2021 and ActionSA will deliver.
