ActionSA Appalled at the State of RandWest Municipality’s Road, Calls for Decisive Action

ActionSA is appalled by the deplorable state of our roads in the RandWest municipality after undertaking a tour of roads from Randfontein to Westonaria. We urge the Municipality to address this as a matter of urgency.

There is no area where we can see efforts to address the huge backlog on potholes or repairs of roads that have become gravel roads due to no upkeep. This exacerbates traffic congestion and the increase in road accidents.

In Hillside and Wheatlands where the new Mega City Project infrastructure was developed, none of those roads have been reinstated as they were left to deteriorate to a point where they have turned into gravel roads.

The municipality’s failure to maintain and upgrade its infrastructure has resulted in roads that are not only impassable but also pose a significant risk to the safety of our residents. The provincial government, through COGTA, has not provided any leadership or direction either.

The current state of our roads is unacceptable and ActionSA demands immediate attention.

ActionSA urges the RandWest Municipality to take responsibility for its failures and develop a comprehensive plan to address the road crisis. We also call on the provincial government to provide much-needed oversight where municipalities fail.

ActionSA demands that the municipality immediately:
• Conduct an urgent assessment of the current state of roads and identify priority areas for repair and maintenance.
• Develops a comprehensive plan to upgrade and maintain its road infrastructure, including a clear timeline and budget allocation.
• Provides regular updates to the community on the progress of road repairs and maintenance.

We implore the current ANC-led local government in the municipality to ensure that our community has access to safe and reliable road infrastructure.
ActionSA will continue to hold the municipality accountable for its failures and fight for the rights of our residents in this municipality. The needs of our communities should take precedence in all the doings of public representatives.
