ActionSA Barred from Handing Over Vital Supplies at Corinth Senior Primary School

Yesterday, we made good on a promise to school pupils, parents, teachers, and the school’s governing body at Corinth Senior Primary School located in rural uMzimkhulu Municipality, to acquire uncapped WiFi and online learning programmes for pupils after they had missed the second term of school after parents shut the school gates due to poor infrastructure that had the potential to cause great harm to pupils and staff members.

We therefore travelled to the school to handover a WiFi router, however, this duty could not be carried out after the school’s principal requested that we do not enter the school premises, after he faced previous intimidation by the Department of Education’s management and was given strict instructions to not accept assistance from ActionSA.

Despite the principal’s knowledge of our intentions – which were previously discussed – to offer our assistance to the entire school and equip them with vital skills in a programme that costs up to R6000 per learner but would have been made available to the school free of charge, regrettably his hands were tied.

It is a shame that deployed cadres would rather allow learners who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have missed an entire term of school due to the incompetency of the government, than to allow ActionSA to offer assistance where needed

It is unfortunate that the ANC government is playing politics in this regard, which further cripples black, underprivileged children. For now, we are left with no choice but to return the WiFi router.

To this end, we will communicate interacting with the MEC for Education, Ms Mbali Frazer, and request that she gives us reasons for why the inspector instructed the principle to not accept ActionSA’s assistance for the benefit of learners.
