ActionSA calls for speedy investigation into the brutal killing of Soweto children

ActionSA in the Joburg region expresses shock over the brutal killings of two children whose bodies were discovered in Soweto yesterday.

As a party committed to creating safe communities, we call upon law enforcement to move swiftly with investigations to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book. The bodies of the children Nqobile Zulu, aged five, and Tshiamo Rabanye, aged six, were found mutilated.

The community believe the incident may be linked to “ritual killings” as body parts, including the private parts, nose, and lips, were missing. These cruel killings also raised fears among community members, fearing that this may be work of a serial killer.

ActionSA requests community members with any information that may help the police to arrest the perpetrators to come forward. The right to life is protected by the constitution of the Republic of South Africa. Ours is to ensure that citizens, mostly importantly, women and children are protected.

Our concern has always been the poorly capacitated police service and lack of well- trained police officers. In the backdrop of this heinous crime, we want to further make a clarion call to the minister of police to present a sustainable solution to bring about significant change in combating violent crimes.

In his release of quarter three crime statics in February this year, minister Bheki Cele confirmed that contact crime which includes murder, assault and robberies is on the rise. Cele vowed to increase capacity at police station level and to improve police responsiveness to crime. ActionSA reiterates its call to Cele to expediate implementation o his promises. We will keep a close watch and hold the minister accountable.

In our upcoming policy congress ActionSA aims to table workable solutions to permanently curb violent crime so we can realize a South Africa of our dreams.

We send our sincere condolences to the families of Rabanye and Zulu. These families should not have lost their children in this manner.
