ActionSA Calls for Urgent Crime Action in Eastern Cape Amidst Grim Reality

ActionSA is deeply disturbed by the escalating levels of crime in the Eastern Cape and urgently calls for decisive action to address the terror faced by its residents.

The recent days have been marked by a disturbing surge in violence resembling a war zone, including mass shootings, cold-blooded murders, and even attacks on high-ranking SAPS officials, such as the Station Commander in Motherwell who was shot and robbed outside his home.

This alarming situation unfolds while the ANC and Premier Mabuyane traverse the province in a desperate last ditch effort at securing another term in office despite everything have collapsed especially crime prevention. It is unacceptable that amidst such chaos and suffering, Premier Mabuyane has failed to demonstrate effective leadership and address the pressing security concerns of Eastern Cape residents. Despite President Herman Mashaba and Athol Trollip delivering a memorandum over a year ago, demanding action on crime, there has been no meaningful response from the authorities.

ActionSA condemns the lack of support and resources provided to our brave SAPS officials who are on the front lines combating crime. It is shameful that these dedicated officers are left to face the onslaught of criminality without adequate backing from Political Principal Minister Bheki Cele and the SAPS Business Unit in Bhisho.

We issue a stern warning to the current Eastern Cape administration that we will utilize every available means to hold them accountable for the Gaza-like terror plaguing our province.

The residents of the Eastern Cape have the opportunity to reject this indifferent and complicit government by electing an ActionSA administration that will prioritize the safety and security of our communities. We pledge to deal harshly and decisively with those who bring terror to our neighbourhoods, ensuring they face the full force of the law.

An ActionSA government will implement specialized crime units tailored to combat various forms of criminality, including anti-gangsterism, financial crimes, organized crime, and economic sabotage. Furthermore, we will enhance support for the involvement of police reservists in the fight against crime, ensuring fair compensation and recognition for their invaluable contributions to law enforcement.
