ActionSA Calls for Urgent Intervention on Unsafe Conditions at Kusile Primary School

ActionSA has formally written to the MEC for Education in Mpumalanga, Ms. Lindi Masina, calling for urgent intervention regarding the unsafe and deteriorating conditions at Kusile Primary School.
This follows alarming reports that learners have been unable to attend school due to collapsing infrastructure, with buildings posing a serious safety risk. Parents have expressed deep concern, indicating that they do not feel it is safe for their children to return to school under these hazardous conditions.
It is further concerning that Kusile Primary School was originally built by members of the community, with little to no meaningful infrastructure support provided by the Mpumalanga Department of Education over the years. Despite previous commitments made as far back as 2020, there has been no visible progress in delivering proper school facilities.
The ongoing failure to provide safe and adequate infrastructure has disrupted learning, forcing many learners to seek placement at nearby schools, placing additional strain on families and surrounding institutions.
In our submission to the MEC, ActionSA has called for:
The immediate provision of safe alternative learning facilities, such as mobile classrooms
Clear timelines for the construction of a proper school
Transparent engagement with the affected community
The continued neglect of Kusile Primary School is unacceptable and places the lives and future of learners at risk. Access to safe and quality education is a fundamental right that cannot be compromised.
ActionSA urges the Mpumalanga Department of Education to act swiftly and decisively to resolve this matter.
