ActionSA Calls for Urgent Investigation into Fire that Ravaged Ditsobotla Natural History Museum

ActionSA North West is calling on the North West Provincial Government and the South African Police Service (SAPS) organised crime unit to investigate the fire that engulfed the Ditsobotla Natural History Museum at Ditsobotla Local Municipality last night.

The Provincial Government and police must investigate this fire urgently and produce a comprehensive report upon which we can make our minds as to whether there was foul play or not.

We want the investigation to reveal if there are any individuals involved, either through negligence or deliberate economic sabotage, and the culprits must be charged and prosecuted forthwith.

We are also appealing to the North West Government to reach out to experts and provide them with the necessary resources so that restoration of these damaged artifacts can commence to salvage what is left of the important history of this once-great town.

Now that the fire has engulfed the building in which the municipal administration is based, perhaps the Provincial Government will finally take the required action to force compliance with fire safety regulations.

Over the last few years, we have seen unexplained fires destroying critical infrastructure like the Mmabatho Palms, Pilanesberg Airport, Christiana Clinic, the Manyane Resort, Department of Social Development, Lichtenburg Waste Tyre deport and now the Ditsobotla Natural History Museum and as a party we are worried about these recurring infernos.

The fire at Ditsobotla has destroyed a critical infrastructure and resulted in the loss of millions of rands which we know the municipality cannot afford because it is dysfunctional and bankrupt due to procurement irregularities and alleged corruption by ANC cadres for decades.

The people of North West deserve a strong, diverse and viable alternative to failed ANC governance and ActionSA is the only party that can offer that.

Thus, we reiterate our commitment to serving the people of North West when we emerge as winners in the next year’s provincial and national elections.

ActionSA will champion the rights and well-being of all the citizens of our province, as we have recently affirmed their right to equitable access to essential services (irrespective of where they live) at our policy conference in September this year.

Our work to fix the province is in full swing and we are on ground now canvassing support for the 2024 national and provincial elections.
