ActionSA calls upon delinquent ANC-EFF Speaker, Cllr Tshivhenga, to take off her political hat and call for a council meeting at once to rescue the critical position in which the city finds itself. Despite herself and members of her caucus being sent to the Ethics Committee, thanks to ActionSA’s efforts, council remains completely gridlocked under her dismal leadership.
After deliberately allowing her EFF caucus to disrupt and postpone the council meeting held on 30 November 2023, Cllr. Tshivhenga still has not reconvened a critical council meeting where important compliance items and the institutional review of the city needed to be approved.
It is an open secret that the ANC-EFF coalition does not want the much-anticipated institutional review to be adopted. To this effect, the EFF is using their deployee, Cllr. Tshivhenga, to collapse the council, plunging the city an inch further into being placed under administration.
The ANC cannot distance itself from the behaviour of their alliance partners in Ekurhuleni. The decision to give the EFF critical positions in council and the executive was a direct result of the unholy alliance between the ANC and the EFF.
The ANC and EFF have had four weeks to negotiate their terms in the run-up to the much-anticipated council meeting, which will see the city pass important compliance items, including a report from the Auditor General, the institutional review, and an adjustment budget that is set to improve service delivery substantially.
Once again, it is the residents of Ekurhuleni that suffer while the ANC and EFF compete for whatever opportunities are available in order to try and finance their respective election campaigns in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
It is time to put our differences aside, find common ground, and get back to the business of the council.
