Just days after the City of Tshwane’s Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), chaired by ActionSA, successfully passed several reports addressing irregular expenditure, the city won an award for municipalities that have managed to reduce Unauthorised Irregular Fruitless and Wasteful Expenditure (UIFW) at the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Awards.
ActionSA celebrates this award as a significant milestone in our commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring every cent of residents’ money is accounted for in the committee’s pursuit of financial excellence and ethical governance. This achievement is not just a testament to the diligent work of our finance and oversight teams but also a reflection of ActionSA’s principles of clean governance.
This accomplishment underscores the consistent and strategic measures we have implemented to curtail UIFW, thereby enhancing the credibility and trustworthiness of our municipal administration.
ActionSA is delighted to celebrate that the City of Tshwane has been recognised as the 1st Runner Up for municipalities that have successfully reduced UIFW expenditure by 21% for the 2022/23 fiscal year. This prestigious award, bestowed upon the city by SALGA, affirms the city’s unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.
Reducing UIFW expenditure by 21% is no small feat. It requires rigorous internal controls, meticulous financial management, and a relentless pursuit of ethical practices. Under ActionSA’s leadership, MPAC has placed significant emphasis on these aspects to ensure that every rand of public funds is utilised efficiently and effectively for the betterment of our community.
ActionSA believes that this accolade symbolises the success of our ongoing efforts to tighten financial oversight, improve procurement processes, and foster a culture of accountability within the City of Tshwane.
