ActionSA Joburg Caucus Rejects the Acquisition of New Doornfontein Apartment Based on Principles
Chris Mohlala
ActionSA City of Johannesburg Councillor
We, the ActionSA Joburg Caucus, reject the ANC/EFF-orchestrated shady deal to acquire an apartment in Doornfontein for rental housing purposes. We refuse to be the enablers of the Patriotic Alliance’s surreptitious operations.
This unsubstantiated acquisition was backed up by the Patriotic Alliance, which has become unpatriotic since joining the Coalition of Doom.
The question remains: Why is the Patriotic Alliance hellbent on ensuring that the city purchases an apartment to the tune of R20 million while the city has several hijacked buildings that can be used for the same purpose?
During ActionSA, President Herman Mashaba’s tenure as Mayor of Johannesburg, Council authorised the transfer of 37 abandoned factories and 154 properties to the private sector for mixed-use development. This included affordable housing and student accommodations.
However, despite this solid foundation laid by Mashaba, the Coalition of Doom has chosen to reinvent the wheel and reverse all these efforts to improve the city and empower residents.
Last September, the Council Programming Committee rejected two of the ActionSA-sponsored motions, which were intended to:
– Recommend the City of Johannesburg Council to expropriate hijacked buildings and hand them to investors to convert them into affordable rental units.
-Convert the sectional title buildings into social housing.
We have seen a revived appetite from the PA for most of the Council items that include tenders. It is now clear that the ActionSA Joburg Caucus has only one thing in common with the PA: the closing of our porous borders.
