ActionSA Condemns Assault by Gauteng Traffic Officer on EMPD Officers

ActionSA strongly condemns the recent incident where a Gauteng Traffic officer assaulted and insulted officers of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD). This unacceptable behaviour followed an altercation involving the officer’s wife, who was stopped for driving a vehicle with foreign license plates and improper documents.

This incident highlights a serious breach of conduct by a law enforcement officer entrusted with upholding the law and protecting citizens. Instead, he chose to act violently against fellow officers, including a female officer performing her duties. In a country plagued by gender-based violence, particularly during Women’s Month, it is especially appalling that a male officer—tasked with protecting the vulnerable—would resort to physical aggression against a female colleague.

ActionSA firmly believes in the rule of law. Such actions undermine public trust in law enforcement and threaten the integrity of the institutions designed to protect our communities. Cooperation between Gauteng province and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police is essential for ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Incidents like this, where inter-agency respect and collaboration are disregarded, cannot be tolerated.

We emphasize that no law enforcement officer is above the law. All officers, regardless of rank or position, must be held accountable for their actions. We call for a thorough investigation into this incident and for appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken to ensure that justice is served.

ActionSA stands with the EMPD and all law enforcement agencies committed to upholding the law with integrity and respect. We will continue to advocate for a just and safe society where the rule of law prevails.
