ActionSA Condemns R37 Million Limpopo Stadium Left Without Water
Press Statement by Victor Mothemela
ActionSA Limpopo Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA is deeply concerned that the new Vhuilafuri Stadium in Madabani, Limpopo cannot be used due to the lack of water, marking yet another example of the ANC-led Makhado Municipality’s failed governance.
It is unacceptable that a facility meant to empower young people and promote sports now stands abandoned because the football pitch cannot be maintained. Residents in the surrounding community are also struggling to access water for their daily needs. This failure represents a collapse in service delivery and also a clear violation of the community’s right to water.
ActionSA calls for an immediate investigation into how public funds were spent on a project that has clearly failed. We demand that the water supply to both the community and the stadium be restored urgently and that those responsible for this negligence be held accountable.
ActionSA will deploy its Limpopo leadership to the area to engage with affected residents, football associations and community leaders. We also support the formation of a Community Accountability Forum to monitor government action and ensure that the people of Madabani finally receive what they were promised: clean water, functional infrastructure and dignity.
Access to water is not a privilege; it is a basic human right. ActionSA will continue to stand with communities suffering under failed governance and will hold every official accountable until the water flows and the R37 million stadium serves its intended purpose.
