Today the member of the mayoral committee for economic development in the city of Joburg, Cllr Nkuli Mbundu officially awarded 80 owners of SMMEs with certification after successfully completing financial management course with CoJ opportunity centres.
This finance for non-finance professionals training is a three-month course aimed at empowering small medium and micro-enterprises operating across the city’s regions with financial management skills to better manage their finances.
The department believes that as a catalyst for economic growth, providing support for SMMEs and entrepreneurs, will play a vast role in economic growth by creating sustainable SMME’s and further contributing to a reduction in unemployment.
Through this programme a total of 244 Opportunity Centre delegates attended the interactive and practical E-Campus course. SMMEs learnt the following subjects:
– Basics of financial analysis for decision-making,
– Profit and cashflow,
– Budgeting,
– Forecasting, and
– Working capital management as well as analysis of financial statements.
“I’m proud of being a part of this celebration because knowledge is the fuel of the economy, it is through empowering entrepreneurs with skills that we can drive economic growth in our city. We live in a country that has one of the highest unemployment rates in the world. The jobs shortage is not going to be filled by government, it will be filled by these entrepreneurs, and it is our role as government to drive skills development to empower entrepreneurs to run successful businesses”. Said MMC Mbundu
The department under the leadership of MMC Mbundu is committed to providing skills development in order to foster economic growth. We encourage entrepreneurs to make use of the city’s opportunity centres across all our regions to find out about other learning opportunities, particularly the youth.
