ActionSA Congratulates Northern Cape Class of 2024 for Remarkable Improvement
Press Statement by Andrew Louw
ActionSA Northern Cape Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA congratulates the Northern Cape Class of 2024 for their exceptional improvement in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. The province has achieved a significant 8.4% increase in its pass rate, rising from 75.8% in 2023 to 84.2% in 2024, making it the leading province in terms of year-on-year progress.
For the first time in five years, the Northern Cape has entered the 80th percentile, showcasing the resilience and dedication of learners, educators, and communities across the province. While this achievement is commendable, we recognise that there is still much work to be done to improve the province’s ranking, which currently stands at 9th nationally.
The province’s steady improvement over the last five years is encouraging, starting at 66% in 2020, which marked a 10.5% decrease from the previous year. This was followed by a 5.4% increase in 2021, bringing the pass rate to 71.4%. In 2022, the pass rate rose further to 74.2%, reflecting a 2.8% increase, while 2023 saw a more modest improvement of 1.6%, achieving a pass rate of 75.8%. The most significant progress came in 2024, with an impressive 8.4% increase, lifting the pass rate to 84.2%.
These results highlight a positive trajectory, but they also underscore the urgent need for further interventions to ensure that the province continues to climb the rankings in 2025 and beyond.
ActionSA is committed to working towards a future where every learner in the Northern Cape has access to quality education, and we will continue to advocate for the necessary resources and support to achieve this goal. By maintaining this momentum, we are confident that the Northern Cape will secure its place as one of the top-performing provinces in the country.
