ActionSA Demands Answers On Delayed Rheederspark Clinic In Welkom

ActionSA in the Free State is deeply concerned about the ongoing delays in completing the Rheederspark Clinic in Welkom, a project that was budgeted at approximately R38 million and announced with a promised completion date of July 2023.

Two years later, the clinic remains incomplete, leaving residents without the promised healthcare services and forcing surrounding facilities to shoulder the burden of increased patient loads.

Our preliminary inquiries point to possible failures in project management, poor contractor performance and questionable oversight by the Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.

ActionSA has submitted a formal Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) request to the Department to obtain:

  1. The name of the contractor appointed for the project
  2. The total contract value and payments made to date
  3. The reasons for the prolonged delays
  4. Progress reports submitted by the contractor

ActionSA believes that the people of Welkom deserve better. It is unacceptable that millions in public funds have been spent without delivering a clinic that is ready to serve the community. We will not rest until those responsible for this delay are held accountable.

ActionSA will continue to monitor developments and will explore legal and parliamentary avenues to ensure transparency and accountability.
