ActionSA Demands Answers Over Housing Assistance Denied to Vezubuhle Resident

ActionSA is demanding answers from the municipality after a Vezubuhle resident, Mr Bojoana Mzimba, was reportedly denied the construction of a disaster-relief house despite his property having been registered under the municipality’s disaster programme.

Mr Mzimba’s house, located at House No. 1219 in Vezubuhle, was reportedly assessed and registered for assistance following a disaster. However, when enquiries were made at the municipality’s Human Settlements office, officials indicated that the department could not build the house because Mr Mzimba is married to a Swazi national.

This explanation raises serious questions about whether Mr Mzimba is being unfairly denied access to housing assistance based on his spouse’s nationality.

ActionSA calls on the municipality to provide a clear written explanation of the policy or legal provision being relied upon to deny Mr Mzimba assistance, particularly given that his property was reportedly already registered under the disaster programme.

No resident should be left without adequate shelter because of an unexplained administrative decision. The municipality must act transparently, consistently and fairly, and ensure that disaster-affected residents receive the assistance to which they are entitled.

ActionSA will continue to pursue this matter and demand accountability from the municipality until clear answers are provided and Mr Mzimba’s case is properly addressed.
