ActionSA Demands Ramaphosa Suspend Minister Dean Macpherson

ActionSA calls on President Cyril Ramaphosa to immediately suspend the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, pending the outcome of investigations into serious allegations of criminal and unethical conduct. These allegations, if proven true, represent a grave breach of public trust and demand urgent action.

Yesterday, explosive claims emerged implicating Minister Macpherson in undue interference in procurement processes and an orchestrated smear campaign against the CEO of the Independent Development Trust (IDT). Alarmingly, it is alleged that the Minister bribed a journalist to assist in this scheme, raising serious concerns about his integrity and abuse of office.

In response, ActionSA will formally write to both the Public Protector and the Head of the Hawks to demand immediate confirmation that the complaints filed against Minister Macpherson are being treated with the urgency they warrant. South Africans deserve transparency and accountability, and we will not stand by while these serious allegations are swept under the rug.

Now that formal complaints and charges have been filed, the critical next step is ensuring that the competent authorities, namely the Public Protector and the Hawks, conduct a thorough and impartial investigation. The public must have confidence that those entrusted with governance uphold the highest ethical standards.

ActionSA has consistently maintained its stance that Cabinet Ministers must be beyond reproach. We have consistently applied this standard, including in the cases of Minister Simelane and Minister Ntshavheni. Given the severity of the claims against Minister Macpherson, we insist that President Ramaphosa uphold the same principle and suspend him pending the outcome of these deeply concerning investigations.
