ActionSA Disputes Claims Made by eThekwini Metro Against Our Organisation

ActionSA disputes recent claims made against the party by the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, accusing our organisation of recruiting the coalition-led eThekwini’s Deputy Mayor of the Abantu Botho Congress (ABC), Cllr Philani Mavundla.

We see this for the political smokescreen that it is. The truth is that Mavundla has outlived his utility, and this is an attempt to offload him.

During a press conference on 06 December, where ActionSA welcomed 33 former councillors and leaders from various political backgrounds into our party, a media house made an error by broadcasting that the eThekwini’s Deputy Mayor was one of 33 who had joined ActionSA, which was false.

After realising their error, the media house publicly apologised and took ownership of the mistake they made and corrected subsequent reports.

It is absurd that the ANC-led Municipality has made a decision to use this human error as a motivation to strip Cllr Mavundla of his duties, and taint ActionSA in the process.

If the ANC wishes to take back the seat they had allocated to Cllr Mavundla – for reasons known to them -we believe that they should do so without dragging ActionSA into their quarrel.

ActionSA distances itself from the statement made by the ANC and requests not to be dragged into their internal coalition squabbles going forward.
