ActionSA Drives Petition Over Corruption Within Human Settlements Department in Ekurhuleni

ActionSA held an important public meeting in Vosho Extension, Albert Luthuli, where residents detailed various reports of corruption within the Human Settlements Department in Ekurhuleni.

We will be driving a petition to council demanding that the housing list allocations be investigated, and the illegal sale of RDP houses and serviced stands be halted immediately.

Subsequent to our oversight to Albert Luthuli and Vosho extensions in Daveyton, I met with the MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Madihlaba, who conceded to the issues currently facing the City on the management of RDP Houses and the allocation of serviced stands.

The meeting with the MMC was positive in that he promised to conduct an oversight visit and establish a task team which will, amongst other things, look into some of the allegations made by residents.

In the intervening period, ActionSA will continue with its efforts of submitting a petition and holding more public meetings across the city so as to find long-lasting solutions to the issue.

As this is a city-wide issue in Ekurhuleni, ActionSA is considering petitioning the Public Protector to investigate these issues as well, should investigations from the department yield no results.

As a constructive opposition in Ekurhuleni, we will continue to hold the executive in this City accountable for corruption within its departments.
