ActionSA Encourages Vaal University of Technology to Exercise Merit in The Recruitment of Senior Executive Managers, to Help Advance the Institution from Its Difficult Past
The recruitment process at VUT follows recommendations by the report of the Administrator which included important directives such as the need for VUT to appoint a Vice-Chancellor.
ActionSA is of the view that current recruitment drive of senior executives by the council and management of VUT provides the institution with a golden opportunity to completely break away from its difficult past and set itself on a path towards fulfilling its core mandate of providing quality higher education to the people of South Africa.
VUT’s difficult past is characterised by having been placed under administration three times in a space of twenty years, with an administrator executing the institution’s important executive management processes for a period of two years.
This significant recruitment process has the potential to accelerate the joint efforts of the VUT Council and other stakeholders to move the university towards sound governance and efficient administration through the appointment of two Deputy Vice Chancellors and two Executive Directors.
ActionSA believes that should meritocracy apply in this process, the recruitment outcomes will enhance the capacity of VUT and create a stable environment where students can study and prepare themselves for contribution towards the advancement of our country.
