ActionSA Extends Message of Condolences to Mbatha Family Following Veteran Photojournalist’s Murder
Zwakele Mncwango
ActionSA KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA has learnt, with great shock and sadness, of the tragic passing of veteran photojournalist, Bongani Mbatha, who was shot and killed at his home in Hammarsdale.
Bongani Mbatha, who worked for the Independent Media, was a well-respected photographer in the journalism field, had a great eye for detail, and captured some of the most memorable events in KZN.
We are privileged to have worked with Bongani over the past few years, who was always ready to accommodate all political parties without discrimination or favour.
He was a very humble person and a man of few words, but his work spoke for him.
We hope the authorities will conduct necessary investigations into this matter, and those responsible will be made to face the law.
Crime and murder rates in our province have reached unacceptably high levels, and we are calling on Police Minister, Bheki Cele, to intervene in this regard and assemble a special task team who will conduct an investigation into the senseless murder.
We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Mbatha family, and his colleagues at Independent Media.
May God grant them comfort and strength during this difficult time.
