ActionSA Files Charge Against MK Party for Violating Electoral Laws

ActionSA has opened a case at the Kabokweni Police Station against the MK Party for violating the electoral laws, by vandalizing ActionSA posters and placing their posters over our posters in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.

ActionSA is deeply concerned by the recent incidents of vandalization of our poster by the MK Party. These deliberate acts of lawlessness not only violate the Electoral Act but also undermine the principles of democracy and fair campaigning.

ActionSA firmly believes in the rule of law and the importance of adhering to local government laws. As such, we have resolved to open criminal cases against MK Party. The Electoral Act contains an Electoral Code of Conduct that is purposed at promoting conditions conducive to free and fair elections. Destroying, removing, or defacing posters of other parties is a criminal offence that can result in fines or imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Political parties that breach the Code of Conduct can face severe penalties, including fines, the forfeiture of election deposits, and even the cancellation of party registration.

We urge law enforcement authorities and the IEC to take swift action to ensure that the MK Party is held responsible and liable for the damage.

ActionSA calls on all parties and stakeholders to respect the rule of law and ensure that the upcoming elections on May 29, 2024, are free, fair, and transparent.

ActionSA remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy and fair campaigning.
