ActionSA is forging ahead with its case against EFF MMC for Finance in Ekurhuleni, Cllr Dunga. On Friday, 03 November, ActionSA opened a case at the Germiston Police Station against Cllr Dunga regarding a deadly blue-light crash he was involved in.
Today, we received a case number, 74/11/2023, which confirms police will be investigating the incident.
This case stems from the crash which occurred on 24 October, where 1 person unfortunately died. It is alleged that Cllr Dunga was travelling in a private vehicle which was fitted with blue lights at his request, which contravenes Ekurhuleni’s VIP protection policy as well as several national laws.
Whilst opening the case, the investigating officer liaised with the EMPD to confirm that the incident did occur on 24 October. We are not convinced that the City, nor the EFF, are being truthful with regards to what happened on the evening of 24 October, despite desperate attempts by the EFF to rubbish serious allegations against Cllr Dunga.
The EFF has stated categorically that blue lights were not fitted onto a private vehicle. Should investigations prove otherwise, ActionSA will hold them accountable for deliberately misleading the public.
As a constructive opposition party in Ekurhuleni, ActionSA wrote a letter to the Speaker of Council, Cllr Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana, and the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, to undertake an independent investigation into this matter on an urgent basis. We have since not received any response on this request.
To this effect, we will continue to hold the executive to account. Ordinary citizens are becoming more and more frustrated with politicians believing they are above the rule of law, a key foundational principle ActionSA believes in.
This incident is yet another failure of the ‘People’s Government’ led by hapless Mayor Ngodwana, who has no control over his Mayoral Committee or the City.
