ActionSA in Ekurhuleni Congratulates Clarise de Lange on Her Appointment as Finance Committee Chair

ActionSA in Ekurhuleni congratulates Cllr Clarise de Lange on her election as the Section 79 Chairperson for Finance. This position became vacant last year, and Cllr de Lange’s appointment is a significant milestone.
As the Finance Committee Chair, Cllr de Lange will oversee key areas, including:
Legislative Role: IDP and budget development, department performance monitoring, by-law creation supervision, and tariff reviews.
Participatory and Representative Role: Public involvement encouragement, public participation facilitation, and public concern representation to the Council.
Oversight Role: Department performance monitoring, referred matter addressing, department activity oversight, and official summons for clarification.
Reports and Recommendations: Oversight-based recommendations provision, quarterly/annual activity reporting, and oversight visit reporting.
Cllr de Lange brings valuable experience to this position, having worked as a foundation phase teacher and holding a bachelor’s degree in education. She also completed a diploma in the Municipal Financial Management Act from the council.
As ActionSA’s whip of the caucus and finance committee, Cllr de Lange has raised concerns about the City’s collapsing finances and overseen the removal of the minority Mayor Cllr Ngodwana in 2024. We are confident in her abilities to serve the residents of Ekurhuleni and wish her well in her new position.
