ActionSA Joburg Caucus Concerned About the Exclusion of Critical Recommendation on the Appointment of the Acting City Manager

ActionSA Joburg Caucus notes with dire concern the omission of vital recommendations on the report tabled in council to ratify the appointment of the Acting City Manager, Tshepo Makola.
ActionSA believes that it is paramount that any process that seeks to validate the appointment of the city’s accounting office is immune from legal loopholes or public scrutiny.
ActionSA wanted the following to be included in the report:

– The commencement of the recruitment process for a City Manager

– The inclusion of all relevant stakeholders in the recruitment panel in the interview process to ensure transparency, inclusivity and alignment with the diverse stakeholders of the city.

– ActionSA holds that given the delegation granted to the Executive Mayor to appoint the Acting Manager for 3 months period, there is no necessity for recommendation 3 in the report.

These critical recommendations were overlooked, however, ActionSA will continue to fight for the City’s stability through robust engagements.
It is worth noting that ActionSA is not against the appointment of the Acting City Manager, but the disregard of the critical inputs raised, hence the decision of our caucus to abstain from voting.
