ActionSA Joburg Caucus Implores the City to Abandon the VIP Protection Policy Case

ActionSA Joburg Caucus welcomes the High Court Judgement on the VIP Protection Policy handed down by Justice S D J Wilson. The Judge dismissed the City’s attempt to suspend the judgement handed down in January this year, which declared this policy unlawful.

ActionSA was against this very policy from the onset, and this was demonstrated in Council where we vehemently voted against it.

We strongly believe that the current provision within the city which allow public representatives to apply for protection as and when they believe that their lives are in danger is sufficient.

ActionSA is of the strong view, that the resources which were meant for this program must be redirected to service delivery programs that will benefit communities.

The residents of Johannesburg are yearning for the City which prioritises their needs as opposed to a city that has converted court of law into their battle ground. Our battle must be the provision of service delivery and eradication of poverty, crime and unemployment.

The City is in the midst of a water crisis, and we believe that it is high time that we prioritize issues that directly affect our residents.

ActionSA further reiterates its call, that public representatives must be accessible to the very community that has voted them into power as opposed to creating a barricade between them and the community.
