ActionSA Joburg Caucus Implores the Speaker of Council to End Her Bias Towards the Coalition of Doom and be A Speaker for All

ActionSA Joburg Caucus has noted with disappointment the manner in which the Joburg Council Speaker, Margaret Arnolds, presided over the Council, which saw our Caucus Leader being forcefully removed from the chamber after raising the Johannesburg water issue.
The Speaker of Council descended the sitting into chaos owing to her bias against ActionSA. She deliberately refused to grant permission for ActionSA councillors to speak, prompting our Caucus Leader to caution Arnolds about the way she was treating the ActionSA Joburg Caucus.
Johannesburg residents are facing a man-made drought, and as a result, community members who are not privy to the Mayors updates on the current water crisis descended to Braamfontein to seek the Mayor’s indulgence.
ActionSA councillors are duly elected to represent the wishes and needs of the masses. It is therefore unfortunate that the Speaker has chosen to suppress the voices of millions by denying ActionSA councillors the right to speak in a council sitting.
We, as the ActionSA Joburg Caucus abide by the Standing Rules and Orders of Council, and we urge the Speaker to abide by the same rules. The Speaker must always be objective; and cannot preside over the council with a predetermined conclusion.
The Coalition of Doom has taken the posture of protecting the delinquent Mayor of Johannesburg, Kabelo Gwamanda, by all means possible, even silencing the opposition voice.
We will use every available avenue to advocate for the rights of the more than 6 million residents of this City. ActionSA will continue to be the voice of the voiceless, and no amount of bullying from our counterparts will deter us from fighting for what is right.
