ActionSA Joburg Caucus Reaffirms its Commitment to the People of Joburg

Yesterday, the ActionSA Caucus in the City of Johannesburg convened its first caucus meeting of the year 2023. The caucus reflected on the year 2022, drawing lessons from the challenges that the caucus was confronted with, and reflecting on the victories that we achieved.

Amongst the achievements is the tabling of the of the motion to conduct a feasibility study of integrating areas currently supplied by Eskom into the City Power Grid. This motion was successfully passed, if implemented this will see the migration of Eskom supplied areas being moved into the City Power Grid, this will shield residents from severe power outages and will resolve the debt issue that some residents have with Eskom.

The caucus also tabled a motion to request the provision of adequate sanitation and electricity in Slovo Park informal settlement. This motion was successfully passed, if implemented it should bring dignity to the people of Slovo Park.

The transport department is hard at work responding to the recent floods that damaged several infrastructure installations including bridges, roads and stormwater drainage systems. The restoration of this infrastructure will ensure safety in our roads network.

In the pipeline in the Economic Development Department is the introduction of the Opportunity Seekers Database (OSD) system. This system will randomise the job allocation to people looking for jobs in the wards. This will eliminate the abuse of jobs allocation process where councillors allocate jobs according to political association.

In yesterday’s meeting the caucus noted that we only have six months left to finish this financial year ending in June. The caucus resolved to enhance the service delivery agenda, by intensifying issue driving locally. We stand in solidarity with our residents during this difficult time where residents face severe power outages, our councillors stand ready to assist residents in resolving service delivery issues.

Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to the people of Johannesburg by committing to be there for our residents on the ground, tackling service delivery issues. We welcome all our residents to the new year, we hope they had good rest this festive season and wish them all the best for 2023.
