ActionSA Joburg Concerned about On-Going Water Crisis at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

Whilst Council has approved City of Johannesburg’s Water Turn-Around Strategy, we are deeply concerned about the City’s ability to resolve its on-going water challenges. The recent water supply interruption at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and surrounding areas exposes the vulnerability of this critical entity.

ActionSA strongly believes that Johannesburg Water should be an agile entity, with capacity to tackle water crisis head on, especially in the institutions of health, where every drop counts.

Without going to the merits of the case, we would like to urge Johannesburg Water to speedily address the water interruption at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and surrounding areas that have been impacted by Parktown 2 Reservoir.

Johannesburg Water cannot be seen impeding the rights of access to health. ActionSA is equally concerned, that after 3 days, the entity is still battling to establish the cause of this calamity.

ActionSA has always been vocal about the need for Johannesburg Water to upgrade its decaying infrastructure, however, the current impasse makes us wonder if the entity is in a good position to carry out this mammoth task.

Johannesburg residents cannot continue to be subjected to this kind of treatment, a treatment that threatens their health. It is worth noting, that this is not an isolated problem; residents across the City are facing similar challenges, and this cannot continue unabated.

We beseech Johannesburg Water management to work tirelessly to resolve the current water crisis at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital urgently, and to ensure the implementation of their turn around strategy without any delay.
