ActionSA Joburg Rejects Pikitup Permanent Placement & Calls for New Process to be Conducted

ActionSA Joburg notes with concern the alleged rigging of the newly appointed permanent employees of Pikitup. The hiring of more than 300 employees to cover a vacancy in 12 pickup terminals was done in a clandestine and clumsy manner.

This process excluded the Expanded Public Works Programme employees who have been with the entity for years.

It is alleged that most of those who have been secretly hired for these permanent posts are mostly relatives and friends of the top Pikitup officials.

While we fight for the insourcing of workers, we are not going to stand on the fence and allow city officials to break the law. We reiterate our call that insourcing must be done in a transparent, fair, and balanced manner.

As ActionSA Joburg, we want Pikitup to nullify the employment of these cadres and start a new transparent process that will also allow those who are working for the entity to apply.

We have written letters to both the City Manager, Floyd Brink, and the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, Cllr. Jack Sekwaila, to urgently intervene and demand a compressive forensic investigation into all the 300 posts that have been filled.

While conducting the investigations, all these posts must be frozen, and upon completion of the investigation, the entity must advertise the posts.

As ActionSA Joburg, we will exhaust all possible recourses in a quest for justice and fairness.
