ActionSA Joburg Youth Forum Concerned with Delays in Case Involving Man Who Raped Three Minors

The ActionSA Joburg Youth Forum is concerned about delays in the court case involving an undocumented foreign national who was arrested in 2022 for the rape of three minors. The matter was again postponed yesterday to 02 October 2023 for trial at the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court. ActionSA activists were present for the proceedings.
As a party which values the rule of law, the ActionSA Joburg Youth Forum believes the case highlights how crime has been allowed to run rampant in our communities, while it takes months for alleged culprits to be tried in court.
It simply cannot be that the accused – who was already out on bail for committing similar crimes in Cape Town when the offences occurred – is not held accountable for the rape of the three boys, aged 7, 8 and 9 years of age respectively.
We cannot allow our communities to be let down in this regard, and that is why the ActionSA Joburg Youth Forum on Monday picketed outside the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg to ensure that the matter receives the attention it deserves.
The court case took place days after ActionSA marched to the South African Police Service (SAPS) headquarters in Pretoria to demand that the Police Minister, Bheki Cele, takes urgent action to fix the decaying state of our police stations and law enforcement.
The ActionSA Joburg Youth Forum will continue to monitor the case to ensure that action is taken against those found guilty of this heinous crime and that justice is served to the victims as soon as possible.
For too long our communities have been left defenceless by a state who have allowed for the breakdown of the rule of law in South Africa, and the ActionSA Joburg Youth Forum is committed to turning the situation around.
