ActionSA Mourns Loss of Life & Families Displaced in the Wake of Devastating Western Cape Storm
Michelle Wasserman
ActionSA Western Cape Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA mourns the tragic loss of life in the Western Cape following the devastating floods that ravaged the Province over the long weekend.
ActionSA extends our heartfelt condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones. We share in the pain felt by many families in the Western Cape and are saddened to learn of the passing at least 8 people, including four children who died as a result of electrocution in the Philippi East area. Other reports suggest the number is higher.
We are deeply concerned about the dire conditions faced by informal settlements, which bore the brunt of the devastating floods, resulting in the displacement of many families and the destruction of hundreds of structures. We urgently urge the municipality to expedite all efforts to provide emergency shelter for these displaced families.
ActionSA will continue to monitor recovery efforts to ensure that every community receives the necessary support from the government. We will be engaging with community leaders across the Province to identify areas in need of relief so that we can assist in the rebuilding and clean-up operations in affected areas.
