ActionSA Mpumalanga reiterates its commitment to addressing the persistent and debilitating unemployment crisis gripping our province on this Workers’ Day.
Despite Mpumalanga’s abundant natural resources and promising economic sectors like mining and agriculture, the scourge of joblessness continues to afflict our residents. The latest figures reveal a staggering unemployment rate of 35.5%, with youth unemployment disproportionately high at 45.8%. This situation not only robs individuals and families of their livelihoods but also undermines their sense of dignity and purpose.
Government initiatives aimed at youth empowerment and job creation have fallen short of expectations, marred by political favoritism and nepotism. Qualified and deserving individuals are often overlooked in favor of well-connected candidates, exacerbating the unemployment crisis.
ActionSA Mpumalanga calls for a fundamental shift in our approach to job creation. Merit-based opportunities must supersede political expediency.
