ActionSA North West Calls for Urgent Restoration of Power in Mahikeng
Kgosi Kwena Mangope
ActionSA North-West Provincial Chairperson
ActionSA is calling on Eskom to urgently restore power to parts of Mahikeng that were left in the dark after a fire broke out at the Mahikeng substation ten days ago.
Residents of Danville, Mahikeng CBD, Golf View, Riviera Park, Industrial site and Aslaagte Libertas have already suffered as a result of continuous loadshedding that has been implemented throughout the country and this ten-day outage is just making things worse for them.
We request Eskom to move with speed to ensure that power is restored to the affected areas so that residents and businesses can return to their normal lives.
As a contingency plan, the power utility must source a mobile switchgear and connect it to the grid while making plans to rebuild the mini substation.
ActionSA notes Eskom’s resrotration of power in Dihatshwane, Majwemantsho, Dihatshwane, Mosiane View and Signal Hill which were also affected by the fire at the substation.
As a party that believes in the rule of law, we urge the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Eskom to launch a full investigation to determine if there was human tampering in the substation and ensure that culprits are apprehended and brought to justice.
