ActionSA Notes ANC’s Clarification and Commitment to Scrapping VAT Increase and Stealth Taxes
Press Statement by Athol Trollip MP
ActionSA Parliamentary Leader
ActionSA acknowledges the African National Congress (ANC)’s statement clarifying its commitment to implementing the recommendations adopted by Parliament yesterday.
It is now our collective responsibility to effectively implement the recommendations and use the 30-day process constructively to engage all willing parties in finalising alternative revenue proposals that protect already overburdened South Africans from further hardship caused by excessive taxation.
ActionSA reaffirms that the deliberations following our adopted recommendations must ensure that:
– The proposed 0.5 percentage-point VAT increase is scrapped.
– The inflation adjustments for personal income tax to prevent bracket creep.
– Instead, the Committee utilises the 30-day period to develop alternative proposals to generate the R18 billion in personal income tax and R13 billion in VAT that these measures would have raised.
ActionSA is confident that if all parties engage transparently, pragmatically and constructively, we can rise above political divides to put South Africans first.
