ActionSA Outraged by the Brutal Rape of 7-Year Old Girl, Calls for Urgent Action Against Violent Criminals

ActionSA is horrified and outraged by reports of the brutal rape of a 7-year-old girl at Bergview College in the Eastern Cape. This appalling act of violence is a chilling reminder of the moral decay plaguing our society.

The brutalisation of children, particularly the most vulnerable in our communities, demands urgent and decisive action from law enforcement. Too often, violent criminals act with impunity, knowing that our justice system is weak and riddled with delays. This cannot be allowed to continue.

We echo the frustration expressed by many South Africans regarding law enforcement authorities often failing to act and only doing so when a matter gains public attention, which cannot continue. Any child who is raped should prompt the mobilisation of all resources from our investigative and prosecutorial arms of the criminal justice system, not just for cases that receive high publicity.

ActionSA demands that the South African Police Service (SAPS) prioritise this case, ensuring swift arrests and prosecution of those responsible. We further call on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the judiciary to impose the harshest possible sentences. Monsters who commit such heinous crimes should never be allowed to walk free again.

ActionSA has consistently advocated for harsher sentences for violent criminals, including increased minimum sentences and the denial of bail for offenders who pose a danger to society. We must urgently strengthen policing and invest in crime prevention strategies that address the root causes of violence.

No child should have to endure such unimaginable cruelty. ActionSA stands in solidarity with the family of this young girl and will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served.
