ActionSA plans to head to court to overturn Tshwane Puppet Speaker’s unlawful adjournment

ActionSA will head to court to overturn the City of Tshwane Council’s Speaker, Mncedi Nzwanana, unlawful decision to reject a Motion of No Confidence (MONC) against himself on frivolous grounds. This is the second occasion in which the Speaker has misused the rules to shield himself from the democratic accountability principle of a motion of no confidence.

Our approach to the courts is premised on the reality that the multi-party coalition in Tshwane will not achieve stability with an ANC/EFF sponsored Speaker at the helm to facilitate their unlawful power grabs.

True to the nature of an ANC and EFF remote-controlled puppet speaker Nzwanana unlawfully dismissed the motion of no confidence at a council sitting on Thursday afternoon, highlighting yet again why he will put his political masters ahead of the principles of good governance.

The shenanigans are characteristic of the EFF-ANC unholy alliance and is a clear indication that if Nzwanana is left to preside over council, the work of council will continue to be frustrated – thereby reducing the efficient operations of the city.

ActionSA, a party that values ethical leadership, cannot allow the City of Tshwane Council to disintegrate into chaos, and will therefore head to court to ensure that the proper functioning of council is restored.

Councillor Nzwanana ascended to the helm of Speaker on a dubious EFF-ANC agreement to vote for small and minority parties in a bid to destabilise coalition governments ahead of the important 2024 national and provincial elections where the ANC is likely to be removed.

ActionSA will continue to place the needs of the residents of Tshwane first and will not allow the ANC and EFF to get away by playing political games. We believe that the courts are the only remaining option, and we look forward to the matter being resolved soon.
