ActionSA Prepares for Upcoming By-elections in North West and Johannesburg with Heightened Vigilance

Following the successful Ward 130 by-election, where ActionSA surged in Soweto, we are now geared up to build on this momentum and deliver a strong showing in the upcoming 15 October 2025 by-elections in Ward 29 (Johannesburg) and Ward 7 (Ramotshere Moiloa, North West), the latter being the home ward of our MPL, Kgosi Kwena Mangope.

ActionSA is now more than ever ready to challenge failed established political parties. Our structures are mobilised, our candidates are prepared, and our party is determined to ensure that the residents of these communities are offered a genuine alternative to broken governance and empty promises.

Importantly, ActionSA remains concerned that, in an effort to stem their declining support, established political parties have resorted to unlawful tactics as witnessed during the Ward 130 by-election in Soweto. Such actions not only undermine the credibility of the process and cast doubt on the legitimacy of the outcome but, more critically, silence the genuine voice and aspirations of residents.

Multiple credible reports and eyewitness accounts indicate that the ANC engaged in the shameful practice of bussing in non-residents to vote in Ward 130, alongside earlier allegations of offering voters cash for their support. This conduct is nothing less than the theft of democracy. It denies residents the right to freely choose their councillor and exposes a governing party so desperate to cling to power that it will cheat communities out of their voice.

ActionSA is engaging the IEC to lodge a formal dispute and demand a full investigation into these irregularities. Ahead of the upcoming by-elections, we will exercise maximum vigilance, contest fiercely, and stand with residents who want leaders chosen by the people, not imposed through dirty tricks.

South Africans deserve a political culture where power is earned through ideas, integrity, and service delivery, and ActionSA is committed to ensuring that conduct which undermines this is rooted out.
