ActionSA Raises Alarm Over Gauteng Government’s Failure to Deliver on RDP Housing Audit

Today in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, ActionSA put a spotlight on something that simply cannot be ignored, the Premier has not followed through on his 2025 commitment to carry out a full, province-wide audit of RDP houses.

This was not a loose or casual promise. The commitment was clear: deal with the illegal selling and renting of RDP homes and bring some order back into the housing system but what came out in the Legislature today tells a very different story.

From the answers provided, it’s now clear that:
1. Not a single illegally occupied or fraudulently sold RDP house has been recovered in the past three years;
2. The system that’s supposed to pick up fraud has not recorded a single report from communities;
3. And instead of doing the hard work on the ground, the Department is relying on “consumer education” and a reporting system that clearly is not working.

That’s not progress. It’s a complete failure to act while this is happening, criminal networks are making money off houses meant for the poor. At the same time, thousands of families who qualify for housing are still waiting, with no end in sight.

The system has effectively been left open for abuse. At some point, we have to be honest about this. This is not just a delay or a technical issue – it’s a failure of leadership and accountability.

ActionSA is not going to let this slide, we will be taking this matter further through the Legislature and using every available avenue to push the provincial government to finally do what it promised – conduct the audit and enforce the law.

RDP houses are not there to be traded or exploited. They exist to give dignity and security to people who need it most. That is something we will continue to fight for.
