ActionSA Rand West Demands Answers and Action from the Municipality to the Community

ActionSA Rand West outraged and disappointed by the municipality’s lack of transparency and accountability in addressing critical service delivery issues. The latest tragedy, where a child fell into a manhole and lost their life in Ext 11, is a stark reminder of the municipality’s negligence and failure to deliver on its promises.

We recall the electrocution of a child in Seme Street, where the municipality committed to investigating and holding those responsible accountable. However, the report is still nowhere to be found.

Furthermore, the municipality promised to attend to open miniature danger boxes, but they remain open and unattended to, to this day. This is a clear indication of the municipality’s lack of regard for the safety and well-being of its residents.

On Tuesday the 28th of January the mayor held a meeting with community members and as ActionSA we are disappointed by the lack of accountability from the mayor and his executive team. The mayor failed to address any issue but pushed the blame to national or provincial government or placed the blame on the private sector.

As ActionSA Rand West we call on the municipality to stop the blaming game and start cooperating with all stakeholders involved to address the issues we are faced with as Rand West and ensure that all the issues from Title Deeds to water and the manholes are addressed.

Key Demands:
– Whilst conducting investigations into open manholes, all open miniature danger boxes be closed immediately to avoid further fatalities and injuries.
– Release of the investigation report on the child who was electrocuted in Seme Street.
– Investigate the child’s death in Ext 11 and hold those responsible accountable.
– Transparency in outcomes of investigations and reports conducted by the municipality.
– Concrete proactive plans by the municipality to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
– Proper cooperation between the provincial government, municipality and the private sector to ensure that services are seamlessly delivered to the community.

ActionSA Rand West demands that these issues be addressed with urgency and seriousness. We will not rest until our children and residents are safe from preventable hazards caused by the municipality’s negligence.
